US Savings Bonds
A savings bond represents a loan made to the United States that is typically used as a guaranteed savings investment by the consumer. Bonds are registered securities backed by the full faith and credit of the United States; they cannot be sold or used as collateral. CitizensFirst sells Series I and Series EE bonds. As of January 1, 2012, paper savings bonds are no longer sold at financial institutions, including CitizensFirst. This action supports the Treasury’s goal to increase the number of electronic transactions with citizens and businesses.
The main purpose behind the introduction of 'I' bonds
EE Savings Bonds are reliable, low-risk government-backed savings products that you can use toward financing education, supplemental retirement income, birthday and graduation gifts, and other special events. The following Series EE Savings Bonds are purchased at their face value* and are redeemed at the amount purchased for when redeemed. They are available in amounts greater than $25 and amounts to the penny (i.e., one could purchase an EE Savings Bond for $25.03).
